Classic Mojito Cocktail
The Classic Mojito is a beverage that originated in Cuba. It’s refreshing citrus and mint flovour mellow with the sugar syrup and the fizz of soda water to create this summertime cocktail.
On long summer evenings, dining outside in the sun, the BBQ radiating smells of sizzling marinated meats, this is my go-to party cocktail. It’s citrus minty freshness over ice can be sipped away into the tiny hours.
The Mojito is a simple cocktail to create and is all about proportions. Too much of one ingredient or another can ruin this popular classic. The balance between sweet and sour and how the fresh ingredients are muddled is the secret to a great Mojito.
CLASSIC MOJITO INGREDIENTS
- MINT LEAVES: Fresh mint leaves are best for a light herbaceous flavour and aroma.
- WHITE RUM: Use your favourite brand of rum for this easy going cocktail. You could try spicing it up with a spiced or dark rum if you prefer.
- SUGAR SYRUP: Sugar syrup is called for in many cocktail recipes. This syrup is mixed to a 2:1 ratio, sugar to water.
- SODA WATER: Use your favourite brand soda water
- LIMES: Use fresh limes. Depending on size. here i used 3 slices of a large lime.
- ICE: Any form of ice will do however I prefer ice chips if I can get my hands on them.
