The Best Italian Green Olive Butter
Homemade Italian Green Olive Butter is a light butter base peppered with finely chopped green olives and is so quick and easy to make. This was served up as an appetizer with a basket of fresh Italian breads when dining out on our honeymoon to Lake Garda. After our second basket of bread we figured we liked it. It was so simple and delicious we had to have it back home. This olive butter recipe also makes a great food gift idea to give any foodie family or friends.
GREEN OLIVE BUTTER INGREDIENTS
- REAL BUTTER: Take a stick of real butter and leave aside to get to room temperature. You can use salted or unsalted butter here. I prefer to use unsalted because the olives are preserved in a brine solution.
- GREEN OLIVES: I have used green olives in brine here. The salty bitterness of green olives paired with the creamy smooth whipped butter make an outstanding spread for all breads.
- MILK: Full fat milk is used to lighten and loosen the butter and will make it easier to aerate.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
- AN EVERYDAY SPREAD: Use the olive butter to top fresh made breads or try it out on a delicious sandwich. Try olive butter, cheese, lettuce, tomato and salami on an Italian sub. Delicious with any spiced meat.
- SAUCES: Melt over steaks, chicken or fish or stir into pasta dishes to enrich the dish and create a wonderful butter sauce.
- SEASONING: Spread over corn, stir into vegetables, fold into creamy mashed potato, season couscous or simply melt over eggs.

Italian Green Olive Butter
Whipped airy green olive butter
Ingredients
- 227 g real butter
- 4 tbsp whole milk
- 40 g green olives
Instructions
- Whisk the room temperature butter and milk vigorously until light and airy
- Fine chop the olives
- Fold the olives into the whipped butter until evenly distributed
- Chill in the refrigerator
- Enjoy on fresh bread
Notes
This butter will set hard again when refrigerated. Best enjoyed at room temperature.
