Fiery Lemon Habanero Hot Sauce

HABANERO HOT SAUCE

This recipe for my Fiery Lemon Habanero Hot Sauce came about because i had spontaneously purchased a lemon habanero chilli pepper plant on a normal visit to town and when visiting my parents, my dad gifted me a green pepper, red and white onions and new season garlic. This homemade hot sauce really came out with a kick and a long lasting chilli pepper flavour when used sparingly. I use this as a condiment on everything!

HABANERO HOT SAUCE INGREDIENTS

  • LEMON HABANERO CHILLIES: Any chillies will work in this sauce. Lemon habanero are the chillis i had at hand and are great for color and fiery heat! Be careful with this one!!
  • GREEN PEPPER: Bell peppers are sweet and help balance the sauce
  • GARLIC CLOVES: A lot of garlic is used to add flavour and also adds to the heat sensation
  • RED ONION: Red onion is slightly sweeter than white and helps balance the sauce.
  • WHITE ONION: White or yellow onion is used to give a depth to the chilli heat
  • WHITE VINEGAR: I prefer white vinegar in my pickling liquor but any vinegar will do. Try apple cidre or red wine vinegar as an alternative.
  • WATER: Loosens the sauce and helps infusion of the ingredients
  • SALT: Enhances the flavour and taste. Table salt will do.
  • REAP SEED OIL: Its a light flavoured oil I used to sauteed vegetables. This is one of my favorite oils to cook with. Its versatile and can take a high heat. I use it in cooking, baking and salads.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

  • CONDIMENT: As a sauce to add heat and acidity to any dish. I add this to curries, stews, beef lasagna, cheese sauce, pasta, eggs….this sauce is so versatile it doesn’t last in my house!
  • MARINADE: Take a bottle with you to the BBQ. Wings, ribs, drumsticks, skewed kebabs, corn, burgers, sausages, even add a splash to your potato salad. Its my new ketchup!!
  • SALAD DRESSING: Take 2 parts fresh squeezed lemon juice, 6 parts olive oil, a pinch of sugar, course salt, pepper and a 1/2 tsp of hot sauce and toss into your favourite leaf salad.
