The Ultimate Fried Chicken Burger

My Ultimate Fried Chicken Fillet is a mouth-watering, wonderfully crisp and seasoned, succulent chicken burger. The chicken can be prepared beforehand and takes just minutes to cook and assemble into this fabulous family favourite. A quick, simple, delicious and filling meal for all the family.

There is nothing that pairs better with fired chicken in my opinion that my Creamy Classic Coleslaw. It adds freshness, crunch and flavour to this already flavourful sandwich.

FRIED CHICKEN BURGER INGREDIENTS

  • CHICKEN FILLETS: I use free range chicken fillets prepared by my local butcher and weigh approx 175g each. This makes for a large chicken fillet burger. However you can use what is available to you and if you are feeding small children, cut the fillets in half before tenderizing.
  • BUTTERMILK: The acidity of the buttermilk tenderizes the chicken meat without toughening it so you are left with succulent, fall apart chicken.
  • FLOUR: I use two types of flour in this recipe, plain flour for the bulk of the batter and cornflour to add crispiness and to lighten the batter.
  • SEASONING: Salt and pepper enhance the flavours of the chicken and the spices
  • SPICES: You can use any or all of your favourite spices here. The spices i have used give a great savory flavour to the fried chicken.

The Ultimate Fried Chicken Fillet Burger

Ingredients
  

Crispy Chicken Fillet

  • 2 chicken breasts
  • 250 ml buttermilk
  • 200 g plain flour
  • 100 g cornflour
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp ginger powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp white pepper
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • Place chicken between two sheets of clingfilm and tenderize/flatten with a rolling pin to about half an inch or 12mm
  • Marinade the chicken in the buttermilk for a minimum of 30 min.
  • In a bowl, add all the dry ingredients and spices and whisk to incorporate.
  • Set your deep fat fryer to 190 degC.
  • Take the chicken once marinaded and toss in the bowl of seasoned flour. Return to the butter milk and toss in the flour a final time.
  • Place into your fryer at 190 degC and fry for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden.
